Vogels, Mamatova, Munoz, Hernandez and Kupcik made the sixth competition day to a remarkable session in Budva
Netherlands’ Zoe Vogels, Uzbekistan’s Sevara Mamatova, Venezuela’s Edmar Munoz, Germany’s Yoan Hernandez, and Slovakia’s Tomas Kupcik all were brilliant in the sixth competition day at the World Boxing U19 Championships in Budva, Montenegro.
Altogether 474 athletes are there in Montenegro and among them 80 boxers will be earning medals in the World Boxing U19 Championships.
Netherlands’ European U17 Champion Zoe Vogels had to meet an Asian and World Junior Champion hopeful from Kazakhstan, Aisulu Mukhit but the 17-year-old Dutch had the powerful punches to win their 65kg meeting. Italy’s Amelia Zamana had a strong sculp in this weight as she eliminated England’s Rihanna Holden by 4:1 split decision.
Uzbekistan’s multiple Asian Champion Maftuna Yangiyeva moved down to the 70kg weight class but she was still strong enough to beat China’s outstanding Chen Wenjun on Day6. Another gold medal favourite, Kazakhstan’s Kamila Ospanova stopped Croatia’s best hope for a medal in Budva, Lorena Horvat.
Germany’s Yoan Hernandez has a famous Cuban boxing family and he followed his father’s footsteps in Budva today. Yoan, who was born in Germany and he is strengthening the U19 team, dominated the first round against Armenia’s Vardan Avetisyan and the referee stopped their unequal 90kg contest in the second.
Ukraine’s Vladyslav Naumenko stopped Algeria’s Brahim Akhmalou in the next important bout at the men’s 90kg weight category. England’s reigning European U19 Champion Albe Dowell and Uzbekistan’s Asadbek Sultanboyev stopped their rivals in the first round.
Serbia’s Vuk Milenkovic had several surprise successes in the preparation events and he worked well enough to eliminate Sweden’s Moses Bazzi. Poland’s Aleksander Sikora, Kazakhstan’s Yerketang Zharkynbek and Russia’s Temirsultan Temirsultanov also joined the quarter-finals of the men’s 90kg.
Slovakia’s Tomas Kupcik was not the favourite against Germany’s defending European U19 Champion at the 75kg, Justin Kiz but he exceeded all of his previous level of boxing today. The Slovakian, who earned the title at the Bornemissza Memorial in Hungary on May, controlled the second and third rounds with impressive performance and he caused the surprise of the day.
Uzbekistan’s multiple Asian Champion Sevara Mamatova is one of the top female boxers in Budva but she had to meet Slovakia’s defending European U19 Champion Karolina Kollarova. The 18-year-old Uzbek did not underestimate her top European rival and her efforts delivered a unanimous success for Mamatova today.
Venezuela’s female boxers impressed in all of the international events in 2026 and their Edmar Munoz overcame Poland’s Antonina Biniecka in the attacks to win their women’s 60kg meeting. Another South American athlete, Sara Campos is a newcomer in the international stage but she had the skills to eliminate France’s Maelys Panizzutti in one of the surprise results of the day.
England’s Lexie Walker, the European U19 silver medallist, is a powerful puncher and she worked hard to stop Cuba’s Yenisel Durruty in their 60kg bout. Russia’s Ekaterina Nesvetayeva secured her second victory in Budva, she had the tight success over India’s Chahat, making another highlight for herself.
Ukraine’s 75kg hope, Konstiantyn Halytskyi eliminated a Russian boxer yesterday but Uzbekistan’s Sukhrob Rakhmatullayev was too strong for him today. Another top Asian boxer in this weight class, Iran’s Asian Junior Champion Mohammad Saleh Mesbahi enjoyed his clear pathway over Slovenia’s Miha Kralj.
Russia’s Kirill Korshakov is a top name at the men’s 85kg weight class and he used the best strategy against Kazakhstan’s Ruslan Akhmetov to join the quarter-finals. Hungary’s Gyula Bozai had an even more difficult contest against Australia’s Chaise Courtenay but with a great finish, he managed the victory.
Uzbekistan’s Sardorbek Bakhromkhujaev had some difficulties in the first round against Georgia’s multiple international event medallist Zurab Oboladze but his second round was a decision-making between them. Cuba’s Julio Chibas was too smart for Ukraine’s Hlieb Kvach in the last 85kg preliminary bout therefore he also earned a spot in the Top8.
