Venezuela, Cuba, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Colombia are the most successful nations at the CAC Games

Venezuela, Cuba, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Colombia are the most successful participating countries after the quarter-finals at the Central American & Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo.

Bahamas, Barbados, Colombia, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, US Virgin Islands and Venezuela sent their boxing teams to Santo Domingo.

Altogether 55 women and 76 men boxers are participating in the new edition of the Central American & Caribbean Games.

Haiti’s Saintelise Jean is not an experienced female boxer at the women’s 51kg weight class but she proved her strong progress when she defeated Jenelie Ramirez of Puerto Rico and bagged a medal for the developing country.

Venezuela’s Irismar Cardozo returned to the top national team with full confidence last year and after several preparation events she was in shape against Dominican Republic’s Esther Jimenez therefore the 28-year-old is also a medallist at the women’s 51kg.

Cuba’s Dinaybi De Las Nieves used her technical skills to beat Panama’s Yuliett Hinestroza at the women’s 51kg while her teammate, Carisney Garcia also controlled her quarter-final in Santo Domingo over Angelyris Lopez of Puerto Rico.

Estefani Almanzar is the No.1 in the women’s boxing team in the Dominican Republic and she started her campaign well two days ago. The 29-year-old boxer dominated the first round against Guatemala’s Jennifer Yool and she stopped her opponent in the second, taking a medal for the host country.

Venezuela’s Diana Maestre was a bronze medallist at the 2024 Youth World Boxing Championships and the 20-year-old talent delivered one of the most sensational results on Day4 when she eliminated Colombia’s Olympian star, Yeni Marcela Arias at the 54kg.

Cuba’s Saidel Horta, the World silver medallist, was not able to deliver his best performance in the quarter-finals of the men’s 60kg weight class and he suffered a loss to Venezuela’s new hope, Wilson Solorzano.

Guatemala’s Brandol Perez is one of the new sensations at the men’s 60kg and the youngster delivered the next success against Saint Lucia’s Danaii Cooman on Day4. Following his guaranteed medal for Guatemala, Trinidad & Tobago’s Abdul Taylor and Dominican Republic’s Disney Medina also joined the semi-finals.

The men’s 80kg weight class is one of the most difficult categories in the CAC Games and big names such as Cuba’s Keylor Garcia, Dominican Republic’s Noel Pacheco, Venezuela’s Diego Andres Pereyra and Haiti’s Cedrick Belony-Duliepre joined the last four.

Domelzo Refelino Schet delivered a historic result for Suriname, the 65kg boxer earned a guaranteed medal in the CAC Games with the victory over Guyana’s Colin Lewis. Puerto Rico’s No.1, Angel Llanos stopped his opponent, Guyana’s Terron Wintz in the quarter-finals of the 70kg in a one-sided bout.
