The World Boxing Cup in Brazil opened with 54 preliminary bouts
The World Boxing Cup in Brazil started with two sessions and altogether 54 preliminary contests were on the official program.
The host of the first stage of the World Boxing Cup is the picturesque Foz da Iguacu where such top nations as Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Brazil, United States, France, China, England, Japan, Italy, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Poland, Romania, Morocco, Hungary, Venezuela, Tajikistan, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Canada, Spain, Ireland and many others are on the board.
Australia’s Monique Suraci caused the first sensation of the day when she eliminated Japan’s Olympic medallist Tsukimi Namiki at the women’s 54kg. Canada’s Scarlett Delgado and Serbia’s No.1, Sara Cirkovic both won their first preliminary bouts in this weight.
Kazakhstan’s multiple World Champion Nazym Kyzaibay moved up to the 54kg but she had the skills to beat Turkey’s Aysen Taskin. The ex-Kazakh Vladislava Kukhta delivered a success for Hungary, she eliminated New Zealand’s Saskia Elliott.
Turkey’s Olympic Champion Busenaz Surmeneli spent a short time in the ring against Italy’s Chiara Saraiello and she stopped her rival. Norway’s Olympian Sunniva Hofstad made a successful return while another top female boxer, Poland’s Agata Kaczmarska also eliminated her first rival.
Canada’s Joshua Ofori robbed into the world of boxing only one year ago and he had the skills to beat Spain’s Pablo Coy in the opening bout of the men’s 80kg using his speed to catch the taller opponent.
Poland’s Damian Durkacz is a two-time Olympian boxer and he is a European Champion but he had to do his very best against Spain’s Frank Martinez to win this 70kg preliminary. England’s Patrick Hewitt, Sweden’s Kevin Scott, Austria’s Arsen Chabyan and Italy’s returning Gianluigi Malanga all advanced to the next round.
Brazil’s Kaian Reis had a harder job than he expected against Czechia’s Kelvin Soquessa but he managed to beat his opponent by 4:1 split decision. His teammate in the women’s squad, Barbara Dos Santos walked over to the next stage at the 70kg.
Argentina’s Brandon Amaya reduced the fighting distance successfully and he caught New Zealand’s Wendell Stanley with heavy punches to win this 70kg contest. His teammate at the 80kg, Nahuel Roldan, had a tight success over Belgium’s Youth World bronze medallist Noa Hadjit on Day1.
Romania’s Florin Ionita moved up to the super heavyweight which is perfect for his height and he stopped one of the experienced boxers of this category, Austria’s Ahmed Hagag. His teammate, Andrei Valentin Gavae had a tight success over Tajikistan’s Damir Muybalikhonov at the men’s 60kg.
