The new stars as Amparan, Solorzano, Encarnacion, Cuello and Patino all advanced to the finals at the CAC Games

The final line-ups of the boxing event in the Central American & Caribbean Games are all confirmed in Santo Domingo during the sixth competition day.

Bahamas, Barbados, Colombia, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, US Virgin Islands and Venezuela sent their boxing teams to Santo Domingo.

Altogether 55 women and 76 men boxers are participating in the new edition of the Central American & Caribbean Games.

Mexico’s Youth World Champion Valeria Amparan is only 19-year-old but she is one of the best hopes in the powerful country and she used her brilliant tempo to beat Haiti’s Saintelise Jean who trains mostly also in Mexico. Amparan knew Venezuela’s Irismar Cardozo from previous events and their unique re-match for the gold medal will be coming in the last session.

Dominican Republic’s 29-year-old Estefani Almanzar was dominant against Mexico’s Ariadna Gil in the first semi-final of the women’s 54kg and as expected she joined the finals of the CAC Games. Almanzar will be meeting for the title with Venezuela’s 20-year-old Diana Maestre who eliminated Cuba’s Carisney Garcia in the second semi-final.

Guatemala’s Maria Victoria Chiroy started her international campaigns back to 2018 and she was in different level as Virgin Islands’ lone female medallist, the veteran Cindy Claudio. The Guatemalan won their 65kg semi-final by RSC in the second round and she enjoyed the pathway to the title bout where Mexico’s Darianne Hernandez is waiting for her.

Venezuela’s Wilson Solorzano eliminated Cuba’s Saidel Horta in the quarter-finals, causing a surprise in the Games and he continued his amazing performance against Guatemala’s Brandol Perez on Day6. The Venezuelan will face for the title Dominican Republic’s Disney Medina who bowed out Trinidad & Tobago’s Abdul Taylor.

Dominican Republic’s Miguel Angel Encarnacion dominated his semi-final against Puerto Rico’s Juliam Ortiz, winning all of the three rounds on the judges’ scorecards. The local hero will now meet for the gold medal Mexico’s Hugo Barron who stopped Suriname’s Domelzo Schet in the second semis of the 65kg.

Puerto Rico’s Angel Llanos was named as one of the favourites for the title at the men’s 70kg weight class but Dominican Republic’s Ricardo Cuello was too smart for him. Cuba’s newcomer Yusnier Sorsano defeated Mexico’s Abel Alvarez and he became the second finalist in this weight category.

Colombia had great super heavyweight boxers in the recent 10 years and their new member in the national team, Juan Pablo Patino exceeded the expectations with his success over Cuba’s World silver medallist Fernando Arzola. The 25-year-old Colombian will be meeting for the gold medal of the Games with Mexico’s Javier Cruz who had the strong performance against Virgin Islands’ Ke Ion Gabriel.
