The European Elite Boxing Championships will begin in Sofia with more than 40 countries on the board tomorrow

One of the most important events of the year, the European Elite Boxing Championships will start with its first competition day in Sofia, Bulgaria tomorrow.

The Technical Meeting and the Official Draw will begin at 18:00 at the Moscow Park Hotel in Sofia today and the first competition day is tomorrow.

The women’s finals are planning to be held in the evening session on September 24 while the men’s title contests will take place on the 25th, in the last day of the European Elite Boxing Championships.

Following the registration process, 43 countries and more than 400 female and male boxers entered to the European Elite Boxing Championships which will be a historic milestone for European Boxing, the governing body of the continent.

Albania, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Moldova, Montenegro, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, the Refugee Boxing Team, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Turkey and Ukraine are the registered teams to the European Elite Boxing Championships.

Several of the top countries as Armenia, Belarus, host Bulgaria, England, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine all will have big delegations in the event.

Two of the Olympic Champions such as Ireland’s two-time gold medallist Kellie Harrington and Turkey’s Tokyo 2020 edition winner Busenaz Surmeneli are also participating in the European Elite Boxing Championships.

Four further Olympic silver and four bronze medallists will strengthen the line-ups in the competition and several of the boxers decided to continue to this event including Bulgaria’s European Champion star, Stanimira Petrova.  

The first edition of the European Boxing Championships was held in Stockholm, Sweden more than 100 years ago in 1925 and Serbia’s capital, Belgrade hosted the last edition in 2024.

Bulgaria was the host of the European Elite Boxing Championships in the city of Samokov in 2015 and the country will be the organizer once again after 11 years of hiatus.
