The dream finals with Olympic heroes realized at the men’s 55kg and 90kg weight categories in the CAC Games

The dream finals have accomplished in the men’s 55kg and 90kg weight categories at the Central American & Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo where the host nation’s Olympic medallists will meet Cuban stars for the gold medal.

Bahamas, Barbados, Colombia, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, US Virgin Islands and Venezuela sent their boxing teams to Santo Domingo.

Altogether 55 women and 76 men boxers are participating in the new edition of the Central American & Caribbean Games.

Venezuela’s World Championships bronze medallist Omailyn Alcala met a dangerous rival in the semi-finals of the women’s 57kg, Cuba’s 19-year-old Magda Masso, but she managed to keep the control in all of the three rounds. The 28-year-old Venezuelan will now meet for the title of the category Mexico’s Guadelupe Torres who had a tight success over Puerto Rico’s Coralis Cruz.

The next Venezuelan, Krisandy Rios had a very difficult semi-final contest at the women’s 60kg against Colombia’s Camila Camilo. The Venezuelan had the routine and the stamina in the last round to eliminate the favourite of the category and she will now face Mexico’s Paula Jazmin Hernandez for the title.

Puerto Rico’s Stephanie Pineiro bowed out Mexico’s Citlalli Ortiz in the quarter-finals and she had another remarkable performance in the last four against Colombia’s Shirleidis Orozco. The Puerto Rican will be boxing for the title of the women’s 70kg with Cuba’s Dayira Mesa who had a close bout against Venezuela’s Genesis Palma on Day5.

Venezuela’s Maryelis Yriza and Colombia’s Angie Carolina Solano both are members of the next generations at the women’s 75kg and the first was more focused to win their meeting. The young Yriza is only one step away to take the gold medal against Lorien Elizabeth Alonso which will be the third Venezuela vs. Mexico final battle.

Dominican Republic’s Paris Olympics bronze medallist Junior Alcantara used his amazing footwork to avoid the tough punches from his Guatemalan opponent, Jose Daniel Felipe Mijangos. The 22-year-old Dominican will have a dream final with Cuba’s Olympian Alejandro Claro at the men’s 55kg weight category.

Dominican Republic’s next ace, Noel Pacheco proved his excellent technical skills at the World Boxing Cup Stage 1 in Foz da Iguacu and he continued his winning path in Santo Domingo as well. Pacheco eliminated Cuba’s Keylor Garcia in the first semi-final of the men’s 80kg and Venezuela’s Diego Andres Pereyra will be his final opponent.

Cuba’s two-time Olympic Games winner Julio Cesar La Cruz had a harder job than he expected against Venezuela’s Alfonso Blanco but he succeeded by 4:1 spit decision. La Cruz, who moved down to the 90kg, will be boxing for the gold medal with Dominican Republic’s Olympic bronze medallist Cristian Javier Pinales.
