The Dominican Republic’s Olympic bronze medallists as Alcantara and Pinales shined at the CAC Games on Day3

The Olympic bronze medallists from the Dominican Republic such as Junior Alcantara and Cristian Pinales both returned with excellent triumphs at the Central American & Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo on Day3.

Bahamas, Barbados, Colombia, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, US Virgin Islands and Venezuela sent their boxing teams to Santo Domingo.

Altogether 55 women and 76 men boxers are participating in the new edition of the Central American & Caribbean Games.

Mexico’s Guadelupe Torres was more experienced than Dominican Republic’s Genesis De La Rosa but the local opponent landed also great punches until the end of the second round. The Mexican turned up the heat in the third round and she stopped her rival, marching to the semi-finals of the women’s 57kg.

Coralis Cruz is not the most well-known female boxer in Puerto Rico but she had the enthusiasm to beat Colombia’s Angie Biojo in the quarter-final of the 57kg, claiming her nation’s first medal in Santo Domingo.

Venezuela’s Omailyn Alcala achieved a bronze medal at the recent World Championships in Liverpool and she reached a career highlight when she earned a title at the World Boxing Cup in Brazil. The 28-year-old boxer was too strong for El Salvador’s Gabriela Carcamo and she used this quarter-final as a warm-up to the next phase of the Games.

The women’s boxing in Cuba is in strongly developing stage and their Magda Masso is a big talent in the country which she proved in the third competition day. The 19-year-old Cuban controlled all of the three rounds against Guatemala’s Jackelin Galvez and she is now a guaranteed medallist in the Games.

Guatemala’s best male boxer, Jose Felipe Mijangos is a powerful puncher and he used his strong attacks to beat Andres Cova of Venezuela. Dominican Republic’s Olympic bronze medallist Junior Alcantara returned with a great triumph on Day3, he outpointed Puerto Rico’s Joshua Lorenzo in the next 55kg quarter-final.

Barbados’ Jabali Breedy was a quarter-finalist at the 2021 World Boxing Championships and the 29-year-old pugilist returned with a fantastic result in Santo Domingo where he defeated Haiti’s Welineton Ceneus. Cuba’s ace at the men’s 55kg, the Olympian Alejandro Claro eliminated Mexico’s No.1, Christopher Santos in a superb contest.

Cuba’s two-time Olympic Games winner Julio Cesar La Cruz moved down to the 90kg and he had still the speed to eliminate the 18-year-old Angel Rivera of Puerto Rico. Venezuela’s Alfonso Blanco became the next medallist at the heavyweight, he had a quick success over Haiti’s Carly Pierre on Day3.

Dominican Republic’s next returning Olympic bronze medallist, Cristian Pinales also amazed at the 90kg weight class when he eliminated Emilio Molina of Mexico. Colombia’s Jhojan Caicedo secured the fourth medal spot in this outstanding weight class, stopping Nicaragua’s Bayron Hilton Charly.
