The developing nations as Guyana, US Virgin Islands, Panama, Nicaragua and Haiti all won bouts in Santo Domingo on Day2

The developing boxing countries such as Guyana, US Virgin Islands, Panama, Nicaragua and Haiti all won contests at the Central American & Caribbean Games in the capital city of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo on Day2.

Bahamas, Barbados, Colombia, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, US Virgin Islands and Venezuela sent their boxing teams to Santo Domingo.

Altogether 55 women and 76 men boxers are participating in the new edition of the Central American & Caribbean Games.

Venezuela sent a strong female team to the Games and their veteran Krisandy Rios opened the second competition day with a dominance over Honduras’ Estrella Borden. Rios had the advantage on the judges’ scorecards after two rounds and she stopped her opponent in the third round of their 60kg quarter-final.

Dominican Republic’s Katherine Bera joined the national team only this year but she looked confident from the first round against Nicaragua’s Leyla Bravo. Paula Hernandez of Mexico became the next medallist at the women’s 60kg following her hard battle against Trinidad & Tobago’s Tianna Guy.

Virgin Islands’ Cindy Claudio tried to qualify for previous editions of the Olympic Games and after a long break, she decided to return to the national squad. The USVI boxer had the fantastic stamina in the third round to beat Puerto Rico’s Victoria De Los Angeles Velez and she acquired a medal in Santo Domingo.

Following Claudio’s split decision success, Mexico’s Darianne Hernandez, Venezuela’s Youly Joselis Mena and Guatemala’s Maria Victoria Chiroy became the further medallists at the women’s 65kg weight class.

Guyana’s Terron Wintz turned 20 just before the start of the Central American & Caribbean Games but he controlled all of the three rounds against Saint Lucia’s Kyghan Mortley, securing an important victory for his proud nation.

The host country’s squad is well-prepared for this Games and their Ricardo Cuello was too strong for Venezuela’s Lisandro Tejada on Day2. Cuba’s new athlete at the 70kg, Yusnier Sorsano had a hard mission against Colombia’s Alexander Rangel in the next bout.

Venezuela’s experienced Diego Andres Pereyra used up all of his routine to beat Mexico’s young Emiliano Reducindo in the first preliminary bout of the 80kg. Guyana’s next succeeded boxer was Desmond Amsterdam in this weight but Haiti’s Canada-based Cedrick Belony-Duliepre and Nicaragua’s Wilberth Vega also won their meetings on Day2.

Cristofer Filos secured a victory for Panama, stopping Honduras’ Gabriel Txumari Fortin in the men’s 65kg before Guyana’s next athlete, Colin Lewis defeated Barbados’ Peter Murray. Dominican Republic’s Miguel Angel Encarnacion and Puerto Rico’s Julian Gabriel Ortiz won their preliminaries before the last gong.
