The 2nd World Boxing Cup opened with three sessions in Guiyang

The first part of the World Boxing Cup was held in Brazil this April and the second stage began in China’s Guiyang city where the preliminaries took place in three sessions.

Altogether 299 boxers are participating for the 20 gold medals in China where all of the top countries, Olympic Champions and Word Champions are participating this week.

Azerbaijan’s European U23 Champion Subhan Mamedov had a promising young opponent in the men’s 50kg weight class, India’s Rishi Singh but he used his longer reach well enough to win their battle today.

Kazakhstan’s Serik Temirzhanov, the Tokyo Olympian and the World silver medallist, moved back to the 60kg and he opened his campaign effectively against Germany’s Denis Bril using his routine to beat the young rival.

Canada’s Keoma Al Ahmadieh, the 2022 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, had a hectic battle against Mexico’s Harold Santos at the 60kg. The Canadian has been using the World Cup in China as the last preparation before the upcoming Commonwealth Games where he is a gold medal contender.

Germany’s Kevin Lebowski is a new face in the top national team but he had the strong performance to beat Kyrgyzstan’s 24-year-old Bakyt Toktosun Uulu in the first round of the men’s 90kg weight category.

Aleksey Sevostyanov switched from Kazakhstan to Poland and the veteran boxer is still aiming for an Olympic quota in Los Angeles. The Polish heavyweight pugilist controlled the first and second rounds against Moldova’s Andrei Zaplitnii and he finished the job in the third.

England’s tall Isaac Okoh is a strong puncher and he showed his extraordinary power against Afghanistan’s Silab Noori on Day1. Another strong boxer at the 90kg, Sweden’s Elvin Belezika turned back his preliminary bout against India’s Harsh Choudhary.

Kazakhstan’s Aibek Oralbay, the defending World Champion at the super heavyweight, had a tough job against United States’ 19-year-old Nnajai Wright but he won two out of the three rounds on their preliminary bout.

Norway’s Paris Olympian Omar Shiha, Uzbekistan’s Arman Makhanov, Germany’s Nikita Putilov, China’s Danabieke Bayikewuzi and Brazil’s Joel Ramos also secured their places in the next stage of boxing at the super heavyweight.
