The 21st Silesian Women’s Open Tournament was the highlight of the boxing week

The U15, the U17, the U19 and the elite female boxers all had the right to compete in the 21st edition of the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament in Gliwice, Poland this week.

Poland won the medal standings ahead of Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Germany, Czech Republic, England, Hungary, France and Serbia but several other nations also shined in the Silesian Open which saw the participation of 241 female boxers.    

The Silesian Women’s Open Tournament is one of the top quality events among them which has also strong traditions in the recent more than 20 years. The Silesian Women’s Open Tournament is the most anticipated international competition in Poland and Gliwice is famous of its boxing traditions.

The Event Director Mr. Henryk Wilk was the engine of the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament together with the Polish officials and the Technical Delegate of the competition, Mr. Dragoljub Radovic.

The first edition of the Silesian Women's Open Boxing Tournament was held still back in 2006 with the participation of a few neighbouring countries but the brand became bigger and stronger each year.

The Polish girls won six gold medals in the U15 age group but the Hungarians also shined with their four titles among the 2012 and 2013 born young talents. Israel achieved one gold medal, their first ever one in the history of the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament.

Ireland, Czech Republic, Germany, Kazakhstan, and host Poland shared the titles among the U17 boxers in Gliwice. Germany’s Amalia Muller, Czech Republic’s Aneta Novakova, Poland’s Emilia Bajrakowska, Kazakhstan’s Nuraiym Kudaybergen, and her teammate, Ayaulym Ospanova won the strongest weight categories.

Kazakhstan sent its best U19 squad to Gliwice and their athletes earned six gold medals, dominating this age group in the event. Ukraine and Poland each bagged two titles among the 2008 and 2009 born boxers who used the Silesian Open as active preparations for the U19 World Boxing Championships.

Poland dominated the elite competition of the Silesian Open, all of their stars competed in Gliwice before the European Elite Boxing Championships. Their Olympic silver medallist Julia Szeremeta had a hard victory this time, while the Czechs and the Norwegians proved strong progress.
