Powerful opener for the Hungarians at the 44th Golden Gloves of Vojvodina U19 Tournament

The first competition day of the Golden Gloves of Vojvodina U19 Tournament has concluded in Subotica, north Serbia where the Hungarians had a strong opener.

After the Belgrade Winner Tournament, and the World Junior Nations’ Cup, the 44th edition of the Golden Gloves of Vojvodina U19 Tournament is the next top event in Serbia.

Boxers who were born in 2008 and in 2009 are eligible to participate in the Golden Gloves of Vojvodina U19 Youth Tournament.

The 44th Golden Gloves of Vojvodina will serve as preparation for the European U19 Boxing Championships, the World Boxing U19 Championships and the Youth Olympic Games.

Hungary’s European Junior medallist Patricia Petriman is one of their top boxers in the U19 age group and she had the confidence against Serbia’s Melinda Utasi as first. The 18-year-old Hungarian controlled all of the three rounds and she marched to the next stage at the women’s 51kg weight class.

The next Hungarian, Nora Illes does not have too much international experience yet, she was a quarter-finalist in the recent Bornemissza Memorial Tournament. Illes also controlled the exchanges against Serbia’s Anja Salata as Petriman and she started her campaign well enough in Subotica.

The North Macedonians have a very small pool of women boxers but they could select Matea Ilievska to this Golden Gloves of Vojvodina. She had a brave attempt to beat the more experienced Hungarian, Eszter Toro but after two rounds, she was not able to keep the same rhythm in their 65kg meeting.

Andras Horvath of Hungary and Stefan Udroiu of Romania both have the routine from several championships and international tournaments therefore their meeting was a unique story of the session. The 18-year-old Hungarian was slightly better in the exchanges and he managed to win their contest by 4:1 split decision.

The Viktor Varga Memorial winner Peter Pinter is a new hope for the Hungarians at the 65kg weight class but he had a good opener against North Macedonia’s Lah Nimani Tournament bronze medallist Erjon Saiti on Day1.

Serbia’s Matija Velic competed in the national events in the recent three years successfully and he had a tough bout against Hungary’s Dominik Piller at the 65kg but due to his last round, his hand was rose when the referee confirmed the winner.

Romania’s Florin Nelu Ulmeanu competed in the Dracula Open, the World Boxing U19 Future Cup and the Akaki Kakauridze Tournament this year therefore he was in shape to beat Serbia’s Tarik Rasljanin in the next 65kg bout.
