Michaela Walsh joined her fourth Commonwealth Games final today

Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh joined her fourth Commonwealth Games final in Glasgow, Scotland today following her amazing semi-final victory.

Canada’s Panamerican Champion Scarlett Delgado knew her English opponent, Lauren Mackie well enough and she used the perfect strategy today. The Canadian followed the tactics well to beat the 21-year-old English and she will now meet India’s Asian Champion Preeti Pawar for the title of the women’s 54kg.

England’s European U23 Champion Sacha Hickey eliminated her main rival, India’s Parveen Hooda in the quarter-finals and she continued the winning path against Australia’s Eve Bryson at the women’s 65kg therefore her final opponent will be Kaci Rock, the 24-year-old boxer from Ulster.

Australia’s Jacob Cassar had a seriously hard road to the semi-finals and he was unstoppable for Lesotho’s last remaining male boxer, Pooana Khoahli at the 65kg. The 20-year-old Aussie boxer will now face for the title with England’s Patris Mughalzai who had a tight success over Zambia’s Emmanuel Katema.

India’s Ankush Panghal is a 21-year-old youngster in their national team but he used his longer reach well enough to beat Canada’s Joshua Ofori in a tactical semi-final at the men’s 80kg. The Indian needs only one remaining step to be crowned in Glasgow but England’s Oladimeji Shittu will be a hard opponent tomorrow.

Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh managed to join her fourth-in-a-row final in the history of the Commonwealth Games after beating Fiji’s historic female boxing medallist in the multisport event, Jasmine Daunakamakama. The 33-year-old veteran will now face India’s reigning World Champion of the women’s 57kg weight class, Jaismine Lamboriya who stopped Lesotho’s Rapelang Maselela.

Wales’ Rosie Eccles was silver medallist in 2018 and she claimed a gold in the 2022 Commonwealth Games and her collection is now full with her bronze at the women’s 70kg. Eccles was defeated by India’s Arundhati Choudhary therefore the Asian will be boxing for the title with England’s Chantelle Reid.

Australia’s World’s runner-up Lekeisha Pergoliti claimed only a bronze medal in Glasgow but another boxer from Down Under, Jye Dixon shined in the semi-final of the 55kg. The 21-year-old Aussie eliminated Ghana’s All Africa Games winner Mohammed Amadu and he can expect another hard battle for the title against Jadumani Singh Mandengbam of India.

Northern Ireland’s Jon McConnell had rapid progress from competitions to competitions and he arrived to Glasgow in top shape. The 70kg boxer knew the best strategy against Scotland’s Sonny Kerr and he had the full control to meet Wales’ big puncher, Orlando Holley-Sotomi in the final bout.

England’s Isaac Okoh was in excellent conditions in the entire year therefore he arrived to Glasgow as the main gold medal contender of the men’s 90kg. The 23-year-old English defeated Scotland’s Robert McNulty using his longer reach effectively therefore only Connor Williams of Wales is his last obstacle in the Games.
