Kazakova, Balkybekova and Naghsh won difficult preliminary contests in the Asian Games

Uzbekistan’s Feruza Kazakova, Kazakhstan’s Alua Balkybekova, and Iran’s new female boxer, Sarina Naghsh all won difficult contests on the fourth competition day at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Altogether 34 nations have entered to the boxing event of the Asian Games and eleven champions will be crowned in Japan. The number of the female boxers is 76 in five divisions, while 119 male athletes will fight in six categories.

The women boxers are able to compete at the 51kg, 54kg, 60kg, 65kg and 75kg weight categories, while the men’s divisions are the 55kg, 60kg, 70kg, 80kg, 90kg and +90kg.

Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, DPR Korea, Indonesia, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen are the registered teams to the Asian Games.

China’s Olympic Games winner Wu Yu had a strong preparation for the Asian Games and she proved that she is still the main favourite for the title of the women’s 51kg weight class after her amazing performance against Sri Lanka’s Nadeeka Pushpakumari.

Yesugen Oyuntsetseg is back on track and she could prepare to this Asian Games perfectly which she showed against Pakistan’s Maria at the women’s 51kg. Following her dominance in the first and second rounds, the Paris Olympian finished the job in the third with a stoppage.

Uzbekistan’s Feruza Kazakova has plenty of Asian titles during her career and she had a strong game plan against Thailand’s World and Asian Games medallist Chuthamat Raksat which she followed perfectly to eliminate her top opponent.

DPR Korea’s An Kum Byol is a new sensation at the women’s 51kg weight class and she controlled her preliminary bout at the 51kg against Jordan’s Hanan Nassar. Her teammate, Hwang Hyo Sun also succeeded in the fourth competition day, she eliminated Japan’s Mai Kito at the 65kg by unanimous decision.

Thailand’s Olympic Games bronze medallist Janjaem Suwannapheng returned to the squad this year and she faced a regional rival, Vietnam’s Hoang Ngoc Mai in a superb bout which she decided by her strength and speed.

Iran has just began to develop women’s boxing in the country but their Sarina Naghsh caused one of the main sensations on Day4 when she eliminated Indonesia’s Asian Games bronze medallist Huswatun Hasanah by 3:2 split decision at the 65kg.

Kazakhstan’s World Champion Torekhan Sabyrkhan also began his campaign in the Asian Games, he outpointed Qatar’s Mohammed Dbichi with strong footwork. Another favourite at the men’s 70kg weight class, Uzbekistan’s Shavkatjon Boltayev bowed out South Korea’s Kim Joon Su in a closer bout.

Vietnam’s returning Asian Champion Nguyen Thi Tam used her longer hands well to beat Chinese Taipei’s Guo Yi Hsuan at the women’s 51kg weight class. Kazakhstan’s World Champion Alua Balkybekova won the most difficult fight of the day, she eliminated India’s Sakshi Choudhary in a world-class contest.
