
Ireland and England's Lexie Walker were dominant in the U19 finals of the Portimao Box Cup
Ireland was dominant in the U19 finals of the Portimao Box Cup but England's Lexie Walker delivered the biggest sensation with her RSC success over Slovakia's European U17 Champion Karolina Kollarova.
Slovakia’s European U17 Champion Karolina Kollarova and England’s top U19 boxer, Lexie Walker made a wonderful final, the best female fight of the day. The Slovakian used her distance well in the first round but Walker caught her with heavy shots in the second and after three counts, the referee stopped their 60kg final.
Ireland’s European U17 Champion Kristian Jubani joined the U19 age group this January and he is one of the stars of this Portimao Box Cup. The Irish had a technician opponent, Dillon Donnelly but from the second round, Jubani’s strategy was strong enough to win their 50kg final bout today.
Ireland’s next U19 sensation, Conor Dowds controlled almost all of the exchanges against France’s dangerous Tiziano Belin and he earned the title of the 70kg. The European U17 competitor Irish is aiming also for a medal in the upcoming top championships this year.
Ireland’s Georgian-descent Rathi Abuladze delivered the next title for the country, he looked too strong for Slovakia’s Filip Mrva at the 80kg. Ireland’s Lee Largey Snoddon, England’s Zack Rackevic and Ireland’s Padraig Walsh all shined in the U19 finals today.
Switzerland’s female No.1 in this age group, Maelle Bader achieved a silver medal finally, following she lost to Ireland’s Carley O’Herron at the 54kg. Portugal’s U19 female talent, Beatriz Borges also lost to an Irish girl, Saoure Marsh in their respective final bout.
France’s Temirbek Guseynov became one of the new sensations in the U19 age group in this event with his strong progress. The French boxer had a powerful opponent, Spain’s Adam Kasmaoui in the 60kg, but his smart style paid off in their final meeting today.
Switzerland’s Loris Vona had already more than 60 bouts during his career and the teenager was unstoppable in this Portimao Box Cup. Vona had the fighting spirit, the stamina and all of the routine to beat England’s Harry Rawcliffe in the final of the 65kg.
Slovakia’s Benjamin Sarissky stopped his English opponent, Liam Irons in the next U19 final bout while George Graham, who likes to compete in Portugal, suffered a tight loss to Switzerland’s Leonis Pacarizi at the 75kg.
