Harris-Allan and Sachin won key preliminaries at the Commonwealth Games

Wales’ No.1, Owain Harris-Allan and India’s Grand Prix Usti nad Labem winner Sachin Siwach won key contests in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland during the preliminaries.

Wales’ Owain Harris-Allan claimed a bronze medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games at the age of 18 and after four years of strong experience in the international stage, he opened his campaign with a clear success over Mauritius’ Niven Chemben at the 60kg.

Scotland’s Nicholas Devlin had a great opener in Glasgow but he had to do his very best to beat Ghana’s promising Ebenezer Ankrah in the next top bout of the 60kg weight class. Boxers from Lesotho exceeded the expectations in the preliminaries and their Toka Litabe was also near to beat Botswana’s experienced Treasure Moremi.

India’s Sachin Siwach eliminated one of the gold medal favourites, Canada’s Keoma Al Ahmadieh in the first round and he had to beat another top contender, England’s William Hewitt in his second appearance to secure his place in the last eight at the 60kg.

Canada’s Amber-Jane Wall dominated her preliminary 51kg bout against Ghana’s Ramatu Quaye while New Zealand’s Greer Hall also opened her campaign with a success over Botswana’s Keatlaretse Modise.

Bangladesh’s US-based Zinnat Ferdous competed in various international events in the recent three years and the Asian Championships participant gave in everything against Northern Ireland’s Caitlin Fryers but her European opponent was too experienced.

England’s Strandja Tournament silver medallist Lauren Mackie opened her campaign with a success in the first day of boxing but she had to box over her level to beat one of the favourites, Australia’s Paris Olympian Monique Suraci at the 54kg.

Canada’s best female boxer, the World Champion Tammara Thibeault had to miss the Commonwealth Games but their Panamerican Champion Scarlett Delgado impressed against Scotland’s returning Stephanie Kernachan at the women’s 54kg.

Ghana’s Mohammed Amadu could be one of their stars in the future and he stopped Kiribati’s Eriu Temakau in a quick contest at the 55kg. England’s favourite in this weight class, Ellis Trowbridge outpointed Sri Lanka’s Rukmal Prasanna in a tactical contest.

Lesotho’s Mathealira Seholoholo knocked out his Northern Irish opponent on Day1 which was one of the surprises of the Games but Australia’s Jye Dixon stopped his march in the Round of 16 of the 55kg.

Bangladesh’s multiple National Champion Mohamed Rakib Hossain also secured his second success in the Games as Dixon, he had the full dominance against Papua New Guinea’s Bid Michael Inoino in the next 55kg bout.

Mauritius’ Ziggy Agathe eliminated Papua New Guinea’s James Paul before Canada’s World Boxing Cup bronze medallist Gabriel Labrie triumphed over Pakistan’s Afzal Khan. Australia’s Jacob Cassar won the battle of the Oceanian stars against New Zealand’s 18-year-old Connor Campbell in the next important contest at the men’s 60kg.
