England, Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Romania, Ireland, Armenia, Italy, Georgia and host Montenegro shared the male titles in Budva

Ten nations shared the male titles at the European U17 Boxing Championships in Budva, Montenegro where England became the No.1 in the overall medal standings.

Albania, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine were the participating 40 nations in the European U17 Boxing Championships.

Azerbaijan’s Hasrat Mammadov and Romania’s Cristi Casu both eliminated top rivals during their road to the final of the men’s 46kg. Both athletes had the same level of speed, their style was also similar, and in that tactical game the Romanian performed better, overcame his rival several times to earn a title.

Following Romania’s impressive gold medal, Russia’s Akmal Dustiyev was too strong for Greece’s Alexandros Konstantinoudis who achieved his second European silver medal after 2024. Armenia’s Hakob Sharbatyan controlled the first and the second rounds well to beat Romania’s Alexandru Butan in the final of the 50kg, reaching his career highlight.

England claimed four female titles in Budva and their new sensation, Shiloh McLeod dominated his 52kg final over Azerbaijan’s Ismayil Nasirzade. Montenegro’s Strahinja Mrdak had a wonderful year in the international stage and he won the European title as well after beating Russia’s Matvei Zaitsev in the 54kg final.

Muhammadali Istamov switched from Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan and the 16-year-old boxer has been crowned in Budva after his tight success over England’s John Elam in the 57kg title bout. England’s next finalist in the event, Charlie Keet won the title of the 60kg against Moldova’s Alexandru-Ahile Buhaniuc with energetic second and third rounds.

Georgia’s Nikoloz Khizanishvili started better than Russia’s Magomed Gadzhiyev but his opponent equalized almost all of the judges’ scorecards in the second round. The 16-year-old Georgian mobilized his leftover energies and he performed strongly in the third round to beat the Russian in the final of the 63kg.

The Rome-based Raul Barone claimed a silver medal at the 2024 European Schoolboys Boxing Championships and he already more than 70 contests during his career. The 16-year-old Italian had a powerful year in all of the events and he continued his winning path against Armenia’s Romik Harutyunyan to take the 66kg title in Budva.

Ireland’s Paddy Nevin controlled all of the three rounds against Poland’s Oliwier Piotrowski and he claimed his nation’s first title in Budva. Ireland’s next pride, the last year’s European U15 Champion Thomas O’Reilly had a tight 3:2 loss to England’s Ivor Lee in the fantastic 75kg final bout.

Russia’s Sergei Kurochkin had a technician performance in the entire competition, and he defeated Spain’s lone finalist, Daniel Garcia Serrano at the 80kg. Ukraine’s Dmytro Kasianenko was dominant in all of his bouts in Budva and he enjoyed a clean success over Russia’s Abdullakh Vashayev at the +80kg final.
