Another 46kg female boxer, Romania’s Daniela Ionica had a more difficult quarter-final against Georgia’s Barbare Tchotchua but she managed the victory.
England produced several champions at the women’s 46kg weight class in the recent ten years and their Summer Grigg is a new sensation in this division. The English girl was expected a hard contest against Russia’s Olga Kharitonova but she decided their quarter-final quickly in the first round with a stoppage victory.
Czech Republic’s Aneta Novakova had an excellent start in the European U17 Boxing Championships and she prepared well against a strong rival, Estonia’s No.1, Alisa Gerassimovits. The Czech had the stamina in the decisive third round to beat the Baltic opponent and she earned a medal at the 48kg.
England’s Letitia McKee was brilliant in the previous round of the competition but she had to prepare strongly against a dangerous opponent, Russia’s Anastasia Dmitrienko. The English athlete found the best fighting range earlier than the Russian, which was the key factor of her victory at the women’s 54kg today.
Italy’s Melissa Cavaliere, the European U15 silver medallist, eliminated another European podium finisher, Spain’s Zoe Montero in the previous round and she had the next great game plan in Budva. The Italian had the strong footwork from the first seconds until the last to beat Ireland’s Saoirse Donnelly in the next 54kg quarter-final. Her teammate, the Italian No.1, Mira Amadori stopped Bulgaria’s Viktoria Dimitrova at the 63kg quarter-final bout.

Georgia’s Liza Lobjanidze, the European U15 silver medallist, has just joined the U17 age group this January but she is one of their best female prospects. Liza, whose father was a brilliant boxer in the past, had a seriously difficult battle against Romania’s Erika Carp but her physical skills were enough to win their quarter-final in Budva.
Germany’s Mara Eichhorn is a great talent, but she had to face Ukraine’s Sofiia Opaliukh who is the defending champion of the European U17 Boxing Championships, she earned a gold at the +80kg in Kienbaum last December. The 16-year-old Ukrainian began their meeting better and she had also a strong second round to eliminate her German opponent.
The silver medallist from the last European U17 Boxing Championships, Hungary’s Krisztina Bodnar met a Moldovan rival in the quarter-finals of the +80kg, Sabrina Gorbuli. The Moldovan was a silver medallist in the annual Dracula Open but she was not able to stop the quicker Hungarian today.
Russia’s Maria Krashenina and Turkey’s Yagmur Eryurt both were favourites for the title at the women’s +80kg weight class but they had to meet already in the quarter-final stage of the championships. The Russian controlled the exchanges in the first and third rounds well enough to eliminate her Turkish opponent and she earned a medal in Budva.
Hungary’s Levente Varga opened her campaign with a stoppage against a Belgian rival and she had the strong fighting spirit against Georgia’s Nikoloz Kerdzevadze, the winner of the Kandelaki Tournament. The 15-year-old Hungarian had the pressure from the first seconds, he kept the same rhythm until the last gong and he eliminated the Georgian boxer.
Greece’s 48kg boxer in their U17 squad, Alexandros Konstantinoudis continued his elder brother’s impressive European series and he stopped Israel’s Hanna Sakhnini to reach the quarter-finals in Budva.
