Chukanova, Szeleczki, Kouzilou and Zymenko won key quarter-finals in the Belgrade Winner Tournament

Bulgaria’s Zlatislava Chukanova, Hungary’s Lilla Szeleczki, Greece’s Panagiota Kouzilou and Ukraine’s Maksym Zymenko won key quarter-finals at the 63rd edition of the Belgrade Winner Tournament in Obrenovac.

The Belgrade Winner Tournament is a perfect preparation option for the main goals of the year such as the European Elite Boxing Championships which will take place in Sofia this September, the Commonwealth Games, the Panamerican Boxing Championships and the Asian Games.

Hungary’s European U23 silver medallist Lilla Szeleczki found her best tempo in the second round against Italy’s Erika Prisciandaro and she won their excellent tactical contest at the women’s 48kg.

The next female ace of the Belgrade Winner Tournament, Bulgaria’s Zlatislava Chukanova was too experienced for Serbia’s Nikolina Dzida at the 51kg. The Bulgarian has been preparing for the European Elite Boxing Championships with full speed.

Greece’s Panagiota Kouzilou moved up from the U19 age group and after her international results se was the favourite against Ukraine’s Violetta Bilokon. The Greek girl was highly confident in their meeting and she deserved to win this quarter-final at the women’s 57kg.

Italy’s European Games winner Irma Testa and Ukraine’s Olympic Champion Oleksandr Khyzhniak used the Belgrade Winner Tournament as their return to the international stage. Testa had a harder contest against her Turkish opponent but Khyzhniak dominated his quarter-final at the men’s 80kg.

Serbia’s best female boxers such as Natalia Shadrina, Nikolina Gajic and Milena Matovic all succeeded in the second day of boxing. Shadrina eliminated one of her main rivals, South Korea’s Asian Games winner Oh Yeon Ji in a superb quarter-final bout.

Cuba’s Deibys Abreu used his longer hands to keep his powerful Armenian opponent, Vagharshak Keyan on long from the first seconds. The Armenian is a bug puncher but he was over motivated with too much emotions and the calmer Cuban outpointed him.

Ukraine’s European Youth Champion Maksym Zymenko had a brilliant technical performance in the evening session and he eliminated Kazakhstan’s Adilbek Kozhakhan in the quarter-finals of the 55kg.

Kazakhstan’s Ibragim Betayev had a crucial battle against Wales’ Connor Williams and he earned a spot in the semi-finals at the 90kg. Ukraine’s Bogdan Tolmachov finished the day with a success over Bulgaria’s youngster Semion Boldirev which was another remarkable battle of the Belgrade Winner.
