
Buelga, Peinado, Bueno, Sanchez and Igbinovia are Spain’s medal hopefuls in Loznica
The Royal Spanish Boxing Federation announced their 8-strong team to compete in the upcoming European U19 Boxing Championships which will be held in Loznica, Serbia on August 11-22.
Two super talented girls and six boys have been selected by their coaches, Mr. Carlos Sanchez Moyano, and Mr. Alvaro Martinez.
The Spanish team arrived to Serbia still on July 28 in order to prepare together with the host country and other national squads in Loznica.
Their boxers competed in preparation events as the Golden Girl Box Cup, the U19 National Championships and the World Boxing U19 Future Cup in March.
Andrea Buelga Garcia joined the U19 national team only this January and the 17-year-old was a quarter-finalist at the World Boxing U19 Future Cup. Buelga has more than 60 bouts during her career already and she is one of the medal hopes at the women’s 51kg weight category in Loznica.
Cristina Peinado Garcia competed various international events in Romania, in Portugal, in Bosnia & Herzegovina, in Armenia and in Spain as well. The 18-year-old boxer also has the number of international bouts, the strength and the skills to earn a medal at the women’s 57kg division at the European U19 Boxing Championships.
Manuel Bueno Jodar won three tough contests at the World Boxing U19 Future Cup in Thailand and he reached the quarter-finals as Andrea Buelga. The 17-year-old boxer competed other international events with successes and he could be surprise at the men’s 55kg weight class.
Rodrigo Sanchez Herranz is also only 17 but the European Junior bronze medallist has the skills to fly high at the men’s 60kg weight category in Loznica.
One of the top picks of Team Spain is the 17-year-old Efosa Wisdom Igbinovia, the European Junior bronze medallist and the multiple winner of the Boxam Tournament.
Pablo Souto Macias (65kg), Aaron Santurio Pardo (70kg) and Samuel Antenzana Montano (85kg) are the further members of the national team.
The European U19 Boxing Championships have strong prestige but it will serve also as preparation for the U19 World Boxing Championships and the Youth Olympic Games.
