Brilliant U19 bouts at the Olympic Hopes Tournament in Sarajevo with top Italians and Croatians

The U19 boxers had brilliant contests in the second session of the Olympic Hopes in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina where the Italians and the Croatians were the bests.

The Olympic Hopes Tournament is being held for the U15, U17 and U19 boxers and all will have a busy year with their international duties with European and World events in the upcoming months.

The 2008 and 2009 born boxers will be able to compete in the U19 age group which will have European U19 Championships in Loznica this August and the World Championships in Budva, Montenegro on October.

Boxers who were born in 2010 and in 2011 are eligible to participate in the U17 part of the competition in Sarajevo. The Olympic Hopes Tournament will prepare these talents to the upcoming European U17 Boxing Championships which will be held in Budva, Montenegro on October 1-11.

The 2012 and 2013 born boxers will be able to participate in the U15 age group and the Olympic Hopes is also a preparation for them to the European Championships.

Italy’s Estella Filardi had a tough opponent in the session, Bosnia & Herzegovina’s Naomi Krestalina is a real fighter and despite her lack of boxing bouts, she was a competitive rival at the women’s 60kg. The Italian used up all of her routine to keep her advantage and won the bout but Krestalina proved that she is a future hope for the Bosnians.

The next Italian female boxer, Amelia Zamana competed also in the Youth Olympic Qualifier at the U19 World Boxing Future Cup and she had the strong punches to stop Bosnia & Herzegovina’s Asja Turkovic at the 65kg.

Italy’s Matteo De Micco is an experienced boxer in their U19 national team who had a crucial battle against Azerbaijan’s Rza Rzayev in the 70kg semi-final. The 18-year-old Italian, who competed in the last edition of the European U19 Boxing Championships, had a great finish to beat his Azeri opponent by 3:2 split decision.

Bosnia & Herzegovina has a promising U19 squad and their new No.1, Eldin Hodzic exceeded his previous level of boxing with his clear success over Sweden’s Simon Naaman at the 75kg weight category.

Croatia’s Juraj Tutundzic is one of the experienced pugilists in the U19 age group at the Olympic Hopes Tournament and he had the solid performance against Bosnia & Herzegovina’s Imran Kovacevic. After the first round, the Croatian increased the tempo in the second, and he stopped the local opponent in the second.

Niko Goreta is another highly decorated Croatian U19 athlete, who gained the control of his semi-final immediately and he was able to keep that until the last gong. Italy’s Vincenzo Filippo Tondinelli competed mostly in national levels in the past and the Croatian was too experienced for him in this 85kg semi-final.

Luca Casarsa worked better in the next Italy vs. Croatia battle at the 85kg weight class and he defeated Dominik Sokac in a hectic bout. The Italian knew his opponent’s weak points and he had also the stamina in the third to win one of the tightest contests of the day.
