Brazil, China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Poland, Uzbekistan, Norway and Venezuela shared the titles in the first stage of the World Boxing Cup in Foz da Iguacu, Brazil. The host of the first stage of the World Boxing Cup was the picturesque Foz da Iguacu where such top nations as Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Brazil, United States, France, China, England, Japan, Italy, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Poland, Romania, Morocco, Hungary, Venezuela, Tajikistan, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Canada, Spain, Ireland and many others competed for the medals. Altogether eight nations bagged gold medals in Foz da Iguacu, 19 had finalists and record number of 31 countries earned at least one medal in the World Cup. Uzbekistan’s Farzona Fozilova had to miss the Asian Boxing Championships in Mongolia but she had a remarkable performance against Mexico’s Fatima Patricia Herrera to take the title of the women’s 48kg. Her teammate, Navbakhor Khamidova defeated Kazakhstan’s reigning World Champion Aida Abikeyeva and claimed the title of the 65kg. China’s Qi Xinyu replaced the Olympic Champion Wu Yu this time and she defeated France’s Romane Moulai at the 51kg final. Venezuela’s lone gold medal was achieved by the fresh Omailyn Alcala who had a close triumph over Hungary’s Vladislava Kukhta. China’s Gan Yunman is a new national member but she celebrated a gold medal after beating Serbia’s Sara Cirkovic in a top final at the women’s 54kg. Her teammate, Zhang Jiamao walked over to the title of the men’s 55kg following that Spain’s Rafael Lozano Serrano was unable to box on Day7. Kazakhstan’s Viktoriya Grafeyeva is an Asian Champion boxer but she had the defending World Champion opponent for the title, Brazil’s Rebeca Santos. The taller Kazakh used her distance better and she made a revenge in this impressive women’s 60kg final bout. China’s Yang Liu, the former World Champion, used her longer hands to keep Australia’s Lekeisha Pergoliti in a safest distance and her counter-attacks worked well to take the title of the women’s 70kg. Norway’s Olympian Sunniva Hofstad returned with a gold medal to the international stage, she outpointed Brazil’s Barbara Dos Santos at the 75kg. Her teammate, Sofia Stigen Sorensen lost to Poland’s Emilia Koterska at the 80kg while Kazakhstan’s Valeriya Aksenova earned the gold at the heaviest weight class. Azerbaijan’s European U23 Champion Subhan Mamedov won the title at the recent Great Silk Way Tournament and she continued that in Foz da Iguacu. The first male title of the local boxers was bagged by Luiz Gabriel Oliveira who defeated the US teenager, Salim Ellis-Bay at the 60kg final. Yuri Falcao Reis claimed Brazil’s second gold medal, he had a strong performance against Japan’s Shion Nishiyama at the 65kg final. Kaian Reis also joined the finals but he lost to Poland’s two-time Olympian Damian Durkacz in the next busy title contest. Azerbaijan’s ex-Uzbek Saidjamshid Jafarov, Brazil’s Wanderley Pereira, Kazakhstan’s Sultanbek Aibaruly, Brazil’s Isaias Ribeiro Filho and Azerbaijan’s Mahammad Abdullayev won the remaining male gold medals in the World Cup.
