Azerbaijan’s U19 team performed strongly at the Olympic Hopes Tournament

Azerbaijan became the best nation among the U19 male boxers at the Olympic Hopes in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina where the three-day long competition was finished.

The Olympic Hopes Tournament was held for the U15, U17 and U19 boxers and all will have a busy year with their international duties with European and World events in the upcoming months.

Italy’s U19 talent, Swami Fernandi had to meet her teammate, Amelia Zamana in the final of the women’s 65kg but she managed to win that title contest. Estella Filardi also defeated an Italian compatriot, Rachele Perna in a superb 60kg final which was selection bout between them.

Croatia’s Lorena Horvat earned medals in the previous editions of the European Boxing Championships in various age groups and she claimed a gold medal in Sarajevo after stopping Bosnia & Herzegovina’s Emina Zrno.

Bahrain’s Asian U17 Champion, their best future star, Jayden Price continued his winning path in Sarajevo as well where he defeated all of his rivals including Palestine’s Abdurahman Alshareef in the final of the 54kg.

Azerbaijan’s Ali Aliyev is the new 50kg boxer in their U19 national team who had the confidence to beat Italy’s Mateo Alberico unanimously while Sweden’s Emil Tadros and Serbia’s Pavle Pavlovic earned bronze medals in Sarajevo.

Azerbaijan’s next top U19 pugilist in the national team, Nihat Gasimov also used up all of his routine and speed to beat Italy’s Tommaso Orlando in a superb final at the 55kg which saw Bahrain’s Moamen Mohammed and Ukraine’s Ilia Melnikov as bronze medallist in this strong weight class.

Azerbaijan’s Ali Baghishov competed already international events in 2023 therefore he had also the experience to beat a top Italian, Alessio Miano at the 60kg. Italy’s first U19 male gold medal was achieved by Giuseppe Cavano who walked over to the title against Domenico Pofi.

Ukraine’s Denis Snigur shined in the U17 age group and their U19 talent in the 70kg weight class, Mykyta Koval was the next gold medallist in Sarajevo. Koval outpointed Italy’s experienced Matteo De Micco and he performed superbly in this final bout.

Croatia’s Juraj Tutundzic is a well-experienced U19 boxer in the national team and he had the strong dominance to beat Adam Dabbas of Sweden at the 80kg. Italy’s Luca Casarsa, Turkey’s Batu Bas, Bosnia & Herzegovina’s Eldin Hodzic and Azerbaijan’s Mammadzada Safder all earned titles in Sarajevo.
