Azerbaijan competes with strong female talents and promising boys in Loznica

Azerbaijan selected 13-strong team to the upcoming European U19 Boxing Championships which will be held in Loznica, Serbia on August 11-22 and their pugilists have the potential to earn several medals.

The management of the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation sent their boxers to as many events as possible in 2026 including the World Boxing U19 Future Cup, the Akaki Kakauridze Tournament and the Brandenburg U19 Cup.

Mr. Elbrus Rzayev and Mr. Ilkin Aghayev will lead the delegation as head coaches but the former Olympian Mr. Jeyhun Abiyev, Mr. Elvin Mamishzada and Mr. Yadigar Mammadov also support the team’s preparation for Loznica.

Gular Huseynova reached her career highlight at the 2025 edition of the European U17 Boxing Championships in Kienbaum where she earned a gold medal and Loznica is the next step in her boxing career.

Banuchichak Nasirli achieved a fantastic silver medal at the European U19 Boxing Championships on Ostrava last October and she moved up to the 51kg to get the best possible result in Loznica.

Amina Taghi, the European Junior Champion is the third female boxer of the U19 team and the 17-year-old has medal potentials at the women’s 54kg weight class in Loznica.

Azerbaijan has always strong options in the smaller weight categories and their Ali Aliyev could be a new sensation the men’s 50kh weight category.

Their Nihat Gasimov (55kg) and Ali Baghishov (60kg) were successful in several of the competitions this year therefore their expectations are high in Loznica. The European medallist Shahin Aslanov will strengthen the team at the 65kg which is one of the strongest categories in the competition.

The European Junior medallist Sefdar Mammadzada is one of the most experienced U19 boxers at the +90kg weight class but Rza Rzayev and Zaur Samadov also have the potential to make surprises in Loznica.

The European U19 Boxing Championships have strong prestige but it will serve also as preparation for the U19 World Boxing Championships and the Youth Olympic Games.
