Armenia picked European Champions for Loznica

Armenia selected 15 boxers to participate in the upcoming European U19 Boxing Championships which will be held in Loznica, Serbia on August 11-22 and several of their boxers are medal favourites in the event.

Mr. Vazgen Badalyan and Mr. Artur Melkumyan are supporting the women’s team preparation and they selected five strong girls to the travelling team.

Mr. Karen Aghamalyan is the head coach of the men’s U19 team, but Mr. Never Vardanyan and Mr. Sergey Sargsyan are also supporting the boxers’ training sessions.

Syuzanna Ishkhanyan, Hamest Afrikyan and Anahit Harutyunyan are all 17-year-old talents but the trio claimed silver medals in the 2025 European Junior Championships. Afrikyan bagged a gold medal at the 2024 European Juniors which is her career highlight.

Elen Papyan competed already in the 2023 edition of the Junior World Boxing Championships in Yerevan while Angelina Hayrapetyan also have been added to the travelling squad as the fifth female boxer.

Tigran Kirakosyan is a European Junior Champion and the 17-year-old was named also among the favourites of the men’s 50kg in the upcoming event in Loznica.

Armenia has strong traditions at the men’s 55kg weight category and their European Youth silver medallist 18-year-old Vahram Dovlatbekyan is ready to beat the top rivals in Loznica.

Suren Katvalyan also claimed a gold medal in the European Junior Championships last year and he is one of the favourites at the men’s 65kg weight category.

Samvel Siramargyan is a European Junior Champion and a European Youth Champion at the men’s 80kg weight class but he is not unbeaten this year.

Artur Avetisyan (60kg), Samvel Aslanyan (70kg), Alen Stepanyan (75kg), Tigran Sargsyan (85kg), Vardan Avetisyan (90kg) and Aram Tumanyan (+90kg) are all experienced boxers in the U19 national team.

The European U19 Boxing Championships have strong prestige but it will serve also as preparation for the U19 World Boxing Championships and the Youth Olympic Games.
