Armenia, Bulgaria, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Montenegro, Philippines, Romania, Serbia, South Korea, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine shared the gold medals at the 63rd edition of the Belgrade Winner Tournament in Obrenovac.
The Belgrade Winner Tournament was a perfect preparation option for the main goals of the year such as the European Elite Boxing Championships which will take place in Sofia this September, the Commonwealth Games, the Panamerican Boxing Championships and also the Asian Games.
Turkey’s Nurselen Yalgettekin had a hard job against Hungary’s Lilla Szeleczki but she won their re-match, which was the repeat final of the European U23 Boxing Championships. The Turkish boxer was strong in the exchanges and her last round guaranteed for her the first title in Obrenovac.
Bulgaria’s Zlatislava Chukanova dictated the tempo against Serbia’s Olympian Nina Radovanovic and she had the strong tactics to take the title of the women’s 51kg. The second Bulgarian finalist of the Belgrade Winner, Viktorio Iliev had a surprise loss to Armenia’s Andranik Martirosyan at the men’s 65kg.
South Korea’s Paris Olympics bronze medallist Im Ae Ji and her teammate, Seong Su Yeon claimed two gold medals in the women’s finals for their country. Im had the technician performance against Turkey’s Nilay Yaren Cam and she used the event as preparation for the Asian Games.
Philippines’ Riza Pasuit is already 33-year-old but she had the youthful enthusiasm to beat all of her rivals at the women’s 57kg weight class. Her teammate, the 19-year-old Clark Vicera dominated all of his contests at the men’s 50kg in Obrenovac and he bagged the second title for the Philippines.
Serbia’s Natalia Shadrina and Italy’s Irma Testa were the two giants who faced in the final of the women’s 60kg weight class and the first won their meeting in Belgrade today. Serbia’s Milena Matovic and Turkey’s Havvanur Kethuda also made strong impression in the women’s finals today.
Kazakhstan’s new lightweight hope, the 19-year-old Nurassyl Tulebek had the next fantastic performance and he controlled all of the exchanges against Cuba’s Luis Enrique Vinent. The next Kazakh finalist, Nurbek Mursal, the Youth World silver finisher, had a surprise loss to Montenegro’s 20-year-old Milos Roganovic at the 70kg.
Serbia’s European Champion Jovan Nikolic made a revenge for a previous loss and he defeated his compatriot, Almir Memic in a remarkable 75kg final. Ukraine’s Olympic Champion Oleksandr Khyzhniak also had the powerful rhythm in his title bout as Nikolic and he overwhelmed Turkey’s Mert Aybuga.
