
Altogether 79 nations can send boxers to the Youth Olympic Games this November
The International Olympic Committee and World Boxing confirmed the list of the qualified boxers for the upcoming Youth Olympic Games where 79 nations will be able to compete in Dakar.
Senegal’s capital, Dakar will host one of the most important competitions, the Youth Olympic Games in 2026 and its date is from October 31 to November 13. The boxing part of the Youth Olympic Games will feature between November 7 and 12.
The Youth Olympics will be the first huge summer multisport event hosting by the IOC in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics’ cycle. Dakar will host the first ever Olympic event in the African continent and the Games will feature 247 events in 36 sports, including boxing.
As only 2700 athletes will be able to compete in the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, boxing will have 120 spots for the five female and five male weight categories.
The World Boxing U19 Future Cup served as the lone qualification event for the Youth Olympic Games in Bangkok, Thailand on March 6-16 earlier this year.
The female boxers will be able to compete in 5 categories in Dakar: 48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg and 60kg are the official Youth Olympic categories. The male boxers will be participating in the event also in 5 weight classes as the 50kg, 55kg, 60kg, 65kg, and 70kg.
Boxers from the 2008 and 2009 age groups were eligible to participate in the World Boxing U19 Future Cup but the eligibility for the Youth Olympic Games is for athletes who were born between November 14, 2008 to December 31, 2009.
Asia earned 31 quotas for the Youth Olympics, same as Europe, Africa will have 30 spots in boxing, Americas 20 while the Oceanians 8.
Twenty-fine nations will represent Europe in the Youth Olympic Games, 20 countries will join from Asia, 18 from Africa, 12 from the Americas and 4 from Oceania.
