Portugal’s Sofia Almeida, England’s Lexi Phillips, Ireland’s Linda Desmond, Palestine’s Olympian Wasim Abusal, and France’s Youth World bronze medallist Djamel Djemmal all won their elite finals at the Portimao Box Cup today afternoon.

Palestine’s Nada Alkhawaja was more punctual and stronger than France’s Lany Thirion in the final of the novice 48kg and Mr. Nader Jayousi’s pupil won her second contest and the title at the Portimao Box Cup.

Palestine’s Wasim Abusal, the Paris Olympian, attacked more in this competition as in the past but he had the advantage in terms of strength against Ireland’s Joe O’Brien and his actions were decisive in this 60kg final today.

Luxembourg’s Nicolas Lawrence Hebert was respected by Daryl Sigobodhla in the final of the super heavyweight due to his previous performance. Hebert from the Alpha Boxing Club knocked down his rival in the first round and he earned a gold medal for Luxembourg.

Ireland’s Amber Byrne was patient against Portugal’s best female boxer, Mafalda Silva, but she jumped into the best fighting range when she felt that she has the potential to land her shots. Byrne had the routine to handle all of the Portuguese tactical changes and she bagged the title of the women’s elite 51kg.

Portugal’s Sofia Almeida had only one difficult moment against France’s Berenice Agonse but her skills were enough to win their 54kg final. Two French boxers such as Aya Hamdi and Aya Kandil advanced to the women’s elite 57kg final in Portimao where the first had the knowledge to take the title.

France’s Youth World bronze medallist Djamel Djemmal joined the elite competitions in 2025 and he used his impressive counter-attacking style of boxing to beat Spain’s Ander Blanco in the Group 3 of the men’s elite 70kg.

England’s Lexi Phillips used her advantage in terms of strength and speed to take the lead against Ireland’s Ciara Craig in the first round of their 60kg final. The English talent is aiming for place in the U23 national team and she moved one step forward with her tournament title at the Portimao Box Cup.

Elton Tavares and Elisandro Silva faced for the title of Group 2 in the men’s elite 60kg which was a unique battle between the two Portuguese. After the two rounds, they had equal scores but Tavares performed better in the last round to earn the gold medal in Portimao.

Mia Bradshaw won the battle of the English boxers against Anya Wilson to take the women’s elite 48kg title. Tamara Kubalova is one of the tallest boxers at the women’s 65kg but the Slovakian was not able to use that weapon successfully against Ireland’s Linda Desmond.

Switzerland’s Algirdas Socikas Tournament silver medallist Diego Mazzarelli was in top shape in the whole event but England’s Joachim Spiel-Johnson stopped him at the 80kg. Spain’s Daviti Shubitidze was dominant against Portugal’s Rui Lopes to earn the gold medal of the men’s elite +90kg.
