Alcantara and Pinales won the most anticipated finals at the CAC Games and the host Dominicans earned half of the titles

The Dominican Republic claimed half of the gold medals at the Central American & Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, but Venezuela, Mexico, Cuba, Colombia and Guatemala also reached the top of the podiums.

Bahamas, Barbados, Colombia, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, US Virgin Islands and Venezuela sent their boxing teams to Santo Domingo.

Altogether 55 women and 76 men boxers competed in the new edition of the Central American & Caribbean Games. Twelve nations earned at least one medal in the competition which had seven exciting days of boxing.

Mexico’s Youth World Champion, the 19-year-old Valeria Amparan opened the line of the winners at the CAC Games, she defeated Venezuela’s Irismar Cardozo in one of the tightest finals bouts in Santo Domingo.

Dominican Republic’s best female boxer, Estefani Almanzar had also the same 3:2 split decision success in the next final, she triumphed over Venezuela’s new hero in the national team, the 20-year-old Diana Maestre at the 54kg.

Venezuela’s World Boxing Cup Stage 1 winner Omailyn Alcala and her experienced teammate at the 60kg, Krisandy Rios both defeated their Mexican rivals unanimously in their respective finals contests.

Guatemala’s Maria Victoria Chiroy exceeded all of the expectations against Mexico’s Darianne Hernandez and she earned her career highlight, a title at the women’s 65kg. Cuba’s first female CAC Games victory was achieved by Dayira Mesa at the 70kg after beating Puerto Rico’s Stephanie Pineiro in another hectic final.

Venezuela’s third female gold medal was achieved by the Bolivarian Games silver medallist Maryelis Yriza who had a tough but successful mission against Mexico’s Lorien Alonso at the women’s 75kg final bout.

Dominican Republic’s Olympic Games bronze medallist Junior Alcantara and Cuba’s Alejandro Claro had a dream final at the men’s 55kg weight class and the first had the brilliant footwork to win their outstanding bout.

Venezuela’s Wilson Solorzano eliminated Cuba’s Saidel Horta in the quarter-finals but he suffered a medical loss to Dominican Republic’s Disney Medina in the final. Dominican Republic’s next ace, Miguel Angel Encarnacion defeated Mexico’s Hugo Barron and he bagged the title of the men’s 65kg.

Dominican Republic’s Ricardo Cuello defeated aces in the CAC Games and he continued his winning path against Cuba’s newcomer Yusnier Sorsano as well. His promising teammate, Noel Pacheco had a harder job against Venezuela’s Diego Andres Pereyra but he managed to win that 80kg final.

Cuba’s two-time Olympic Games winner Julio Cesar La Cruz was not enough focused in the first round against the host nation’s pride, Cristian Javier Pinales and he claimed only silver medal at the 90kg this time. Colombia’s Juan Pablo Patino controlled all of the three rounds against Mexico’s Javier Cruz and he won the last title of the CAC Games.
