Abdumalik Khalokov defended his Asian Games throne

Uzbekistan’s No.1, the Olympic Champion Abdumalik Khalokov defended his throne in the boxing event of the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan today evening.

India surprisingly claimed altogether three gold medals and topped the medal standings of the Asian Games in Japan. The most powerful nations as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan both achieved two titles while China, Chinese Taipei, Japan, and Thailand each won one gold medal in the Games.

Altogether 34 nations have entered to the boxing event of the Asian Games and eleven champions have been crowned in Japan. The number of the female boxers was 76 in five divisions, while 119 male athletes fought in six categories.

Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, DPR Korea, Indonesia, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen were the participating nations in the Asian Games.

Thailand’s Natnicha Chongprongklang, the Asian Champion from 2024, proved her strong development in terms of technical skills and she defeated one of the stars of the Games, DPR Korea’s multiple World Champion Pang Chol Mi at the women’s 54kg weight class.

India’s Parveen Hooda claimed a gold medal at the 2022 Asian Boxing Championships but she was not the favourite at the women’s 65kg weight class. The Indian had a great luck against her Uzbek, Chinese and Chinese Taipei star opponents, and with a strong first round, she was able to beat the World Champion Chen Nien Chin in the final.

Uzbekistan’s Olympic Champion Abdumalik Khalokov is one of the best boxers in the entire world and he dominated the men’s 60kg weight class from the preliminaries until the finals. The 26-year-old Uzbek defended his Asian Games throne in Aichi-Nagoya after beating South Korea’s Jang Dong Hwan in a one-sided bout.

Ankush Panghal and Kim Min Seong were surprise finalists in the Asian Games as higher ranked boxers were the favourites for the gold of the 80kg, such as Uzbekistan’s Fazliddin Erkinboyev and Kazakhstan’s Sabyrzhan Akkalykov. The Indian controlled the final over Kim and the 21-year-old boxer reached his unexpected career highlight in Aichi-Nagoya.

Kazakhstan’s World Champion Aibek Oralbay and Uzbekistan’s Jakhongir Zokirov know each other well from all of the previous major events. Oralbay won mostly their super heavyweight meetings in the past and he was able to repeat that performance once again to earn the last title of the Asian Games.
